I've finally accomplished something that makes me happy

I've been re-reading my old posts, and noticed I've been complaining a lot. Not good.

Now I have something to talk about. I've spent the last year or so writing a book, a murder mystery. Imagine. I've finally found something I'm happy and excited to do. I finished it a few weeks ago, and now I have to find a publisher.

My book ("my book", doesn't that sound wonderful!?) is set in Maine where I was born and grew up, and it is the first book in the Deane Island Mysteries Series. I'm from southern Maine, specifically, Yarmouth, Maine, the home of the famous Yarmouth Clam Festival. The Festival is actually younger than I am. I still remember the day my youngest sister and I decided to walk downtown, and discover the cause for all the excitement. We noticed a few differences, but it seemed to us to be the same ole' carnival and food booths the town has always put on every year in July for the kids. Quite a disappointment. It took a few years, but it eventually grew into what it is now, a Festival to make us proud.

Anyway, back to my book. The working title is Murder is Always Evil, and it mostly occurs on a small island off the coast of Maine. This island, called Deanes Island, exists only in my mind. Deanes Island is probably connected to the Portland area on the mainland by a bridge, but the bridge is never mentioned in the story. The main character is Noah Drinkwater, the town of Fairhaven's Chief of Police. Noah is descended from a branch of the Drinkwater family in England, as am I. My mother was a Drinkwater, but probably not from the same branch as Noah. I enjoy writing, and this project has kept me entertained. More about Noah and the goings-on of the Fairhaven residents in the next post.
