As you can imagine from the title of this blog, my right wrist finally gave up after years of abuse. What I thought was a case of carpal tunnel, turned out to be something called DeQuervains tenosynovitis. I'd never heard of it but it's real. Apparently it affects mostly women, although golfers can also suffer with it. Mine is on the right side, because I'm right-handed and it's the one I'm constantly using. The tendons on the thumb side of the wrist are affected. Repetitive hand or wrist movements will make it worse. And mine got worse because I waited to see a doctor and while I was waiting, I continued doing my work, which is typing my books and retyping my books as I edit and correct until I'm satisfied. Then add to this the daily chores that always need doing.
I have my 4th book almost finished. It's a little longer than each of the first three because I'm having fun writing it. The book takes place along my fictional coast of Maine and includes mention of some real and some imagined towns and cities. Two of the real ones are Portland, Maine, where I worked at one time, and Yarmouth, Maine, where I grew up. However, keep in mind my descriptions of them may not be accurate. This is a book of fiction after all.
The main focus of Book four is a racetrack on the Maine Coast South of Deanes Island. The crime in and around Fairhaven is increasing and it all seems to point to the racetrack. Noah and his men are embroiled in the mess in different ways but they keep fighting to bring peace back to their town.
Love and romance are still a feature of the story and Noah and Isaac may each find a new entanglement, maybe even love. Murder, hate, money and love of power are all still available in the quiet little town of Fairhaven.

THE FIRST BOOK IN THE GULF OF MAINE MYSTERIES series
Here is the start of the first book in my mystery series:
MURDER IS ALWAYS EVIL
by Susan Davis Cummings
CHAPTER ONE
"I jumped out of bed, and ran to my car, not knowing why or
how, just that I had to find him. It was still dark, but I could see the car,
as if the moon were shining only for me.
Someone was hurt. I had heard a cry come out of the dark, and terror
filled my mind. I had been sound asleep, but the vision was real. I had seen
him and heard his voice and I knew I had to get there without fail. Where I
didn’t know, but it didn’t matter. I tried to open the car door, but my hand
kept slipping. I tried to get to the other side, but I couldn’t move. My legs
wouldn’t work. My body felt leaden. My heart was racing, and I could feel the
sweat trickle down my neck. The terror returned. I reached down to move my leg
with my hands. Nothing happened. I tried to holler, but my throat was as dry as dust. I was trapped. I felt the world
closing in on me. I would smother and die. Then suddenly, I gasped, and awoke
in my bed. I was alive. It was only a dream. I lay there quietly while my heart
stopped thumping in my chest. It’s just a dream. I kept repeating the mantra
until I felt calm. It’s just a
dream. My mind knew it was just a dream,
but I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone, somewhere, was hurt."
This first book as well as books two and three are available on Amazon.com in both paperback and eBook format. I am more than half-way through writing book four.
This series features Chief of Police Noah Drinkwater of the Town of Fairhaven, Maine. The time period is the 1950's, a time before the existence of electronic gadgets which we all feel we can't live without in today's busy world. Life was more simple but crime and murder weren't. Even in the small fictional town of Fairhaven, people loved and hated as much as we do, maybe even more. If you enjoy mysteries sprinkled with a little love and romance, then this series is for you. Join, Chief Noah Drinkwater, Assistant Chief Isaac Sanders, Mayor Tom Sewall, Coroner Dr. Cliff Somers and all the ladies of Fairhaven Annie, Hazel, Hannah, Belle, Janie and Marjorie who live and love in the small town of Fairhaven, Maine. Hope to see you there soon. Susan Davis Cummings

MOVING IS HELL
I have moved many times in my life. The first move being from Cumberland Maine to Yarmouth, Maine when I was seven years old, and could enjoy the move. It was exciting.
However, the last move from the City of Punta Gorda in Charlotte County, Florida to a community, the Villages of Cypress Creek, in Ruskin (or Sun City Center) in Hillsborough County, Florida was an unbelievable nightmare. Hillsborough County has grown so much in the last five years, no one really knows anymore where they live.
I like the area. The County has done as much as it could to provide for open spaces for recreation or for the enjoyment of nature by its citizens. Unfortunately, it's still growing and no one seems to know where it will end. Hopefully, my husband and I won't have to move again. This last move was a horror. I won't go into the details, but believe me, we did not enjoy the experience.
The good news is I am more than halfway through writing Book 4 of the Gulf of Maine Mysteries series, A Noah Drinkwater Mystery. This one is also filled with murder and crime, and with lots of love and romance thrown in. Stay in touch and keep your eyes on my publishing announcement of Book 4 on my Facebook page, Susan Davis Cummings. I hope you enjoy this new one in the series. The working title of the new book is: THEY BET ON COLD MURDER TO WIN.
Oh, by the way, did I mention, this book is about horse-racing at a fictional track in Southern Maine not far from Deanes Island? I know you will enjoy it.
